9/11 Commission Purposely Set Up So 9/11 Staff Had Conflict of ...

Indeed, Lehman strongly implies that the Commission was purposely set up so that every single person involved would have a conflict of interest which would prevent them from conducting an honest investigation. Lehman himself is a textbook example of conflict of interest. In 1998, 9/11 Commission executive director Zelikow published an article in Foreign Affairs, the journal of the Council on Foreign Relations, entitled Catastrophic Terrorism: Imagining the Transformative Event. Some two years later, PNAC picked up the Zelikow language, saying that the campaign to convince the public to allow expanded use of U.S. military force around the world "is likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event -- like a new Pearl Harbor". Lehman was a member of PNAC, and a signatory to PNAC's plea for "a new Pearl Harbor".

Report: Online Dating's Bad for the Wallet

Not only do you have to worry about your heart while making dates online, but now your wallet is at risk, too. The Better Business Bureau reports today that complaints about online dating services are on the rise.

The most common gripe? Poor matches. Consumers said they were set up with people who did not meet their criteria, including some who were already married or who smoked despite their request for a nonsmoker.

And the bad dates came at a hefty price, with many services costing upwards of $50 a month.

To protect your money (and heart), the BBB recommends that you be skeptical of advertising for online dating, do a Web search before signing up to see if others have complained about the company, and stand strong against high-pressure sales tactics and automatic contract renewals.

Lindsay Lohan really wants to get laid

Lindsay Lohan, or as I affectionately call her "Cinnamon Chesterton," knocked back vodka and champagne at a West Hollywood club the other night. Heeding the drunken call of her fiery master, Lindsay went on a manhunt and set her eyes on Adrian Grenier. But things didn't go as planned, according to NY Daily News:

LiLo at first gravitated to Grenier, pulling off her red leather jacket and pulling him onto the dance floor. But when the girl he came with reclaimed the “Entourage" star, Lohan made her way over to the table where Leo was partying with Kevin Connolly and Lukas Haas. “She was very flirty with Leo," says our spy. “But he wasn't saying much to her." DiCaprio and Grenier and their posses exited around 2 a.m., leaving Lohan with some girlfriends.

Kevin Connolly, foolishly thinking he'd touch his first boob, tried to make a pass at the desperate Lindsay.

Analyst rings death knell for SMS

Mobile operators cannot rely on revenues from SMS growing at the same pace into the future, analyst firm Ovum warned today.

Despite the recent announcement from the Mobile Data Association that UK mobile subscribers are now sending more than one billion text messages a week, John Delaney, principal analyst at Ovum, predicted a slow down.

"Even if SMS traffic keeps growing at current rates into the future, mobile operators cannot rely on revenues from SMS growing at the same pace," he said.

Delaney noted that, although the UK has been a saturated mobile market for several years, and growth in mobile voice usage is slowing down, text messaging continues to defy gravity.

"Growth in SMS traffic in the UK has been describing an almost perfect straight-line graph for the whole of the 21st century and shows no signs of slowing down," he said.

Ex-Student Guilty in Mass. School Plot

After Nee and two of the other students came forward in 2004, authorities uncovered a hit list of students, school officials and police officers. They also found hand-drawn maps of Marshfield High School, computer files on bomb-building and a shopping list of weapons and ammunition.

"There have been three school shootings in the last six days. You have to take these things seriously," Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said.

Nee, 21, was 18 when he, Daniel Farley and Joseph Sullivan reported that a fourth student, Tobin Kerns, was planning to kill students and teachers at Marshfield, in Brockton, south of Boston. They said the attack was to be similar to the 1999 shooting rampage at Columbine High School in Colorado that left 15 people dead.

Photography Capital, no less

Emerging artists are now in demand and the Capital has photo galleries that suit every pocket.

Jindal Photo, Wonderwall and Tasveer are the leading houses that have a stockpile of hundreds of works of old and new photographers. In November, when Jindal Photo organised the Fuji SuperSix exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademy, it showcased a battery of some of the best emerging artists in the country.

Young and enterprising, these photographers put up works that had a distinctly fresh perspective. “Photographs are a lot cheaper than heavy oils and easy to maintain. Yet, they give a peppy boutique look to your home. Photographs are also gaining popularity as an investment," said Shalini Gupta, proprieter of gallery, Tasveer.

A framed photograph lends a contemporary look as opposed to the classic look of a rich oil canvas, says designer Natasha Arora who made over a three-bedroom apartment of Ashok and Aarti Mehra with black-and-white.

Family, friends mourn woman killed in fire

Stacey, who was single, was a bridesmaid and gave the speech at her sister's wedding about five years ago. Her sense of humor shone through then more than ever.

"She was so timid going into it and so worried and shy," Wendy Johnson said. "But then she got up to the give the speech, and it was just so beautiful, and she wouldn't sit down and stop telling stories. She had all these funny stories. You just gave her a microphone, and she was suddenly on stage."

Stacey's mother is staying at her eldest daughter's house while investigators are assessing damage to the Fort Hill home.

Johnson said she's still trying to figure out a way to tell her 3-year-old twins, Stacey's niece and nephew, about their aunt.

"The first thing they always ask is 'Where's Stacey? Where's Stacey?" she said.

Bridal Affaire draws crowds to Gallatin Mall

It was matrimonial merriment, only in miniature.

ERIK PETERSEN/CHRONICLE A fashion-show model displays a tuxedo with flair to the crowd attending the Bridal Affaire at the Gallatin Valley Mall Saturday afternoon. Caterers doled out tiny cupcakes and small sample portions of roast beef to brides- and grooms-to-be in an empty storefront decorated for a wedding reception at the Gallatin Valley Mall Saturday.A life-size Irish band played soothing tunes from one corner of the small pseudo-reception hall. The runway for a bridal fashion show was set up in the back half of the room.Debbie Flikkema and Leanne Moss, of Churchill, came to the Bridal Affaire 2008 "to get ideas" for their daughters, both of whom are getting married soon and live in other states. Many others were there for similar reasons, and they strolled through the mall in search of ideas for cakes, flowers, food, decorating, gowns and tuxedos.

Lisa Abeyta: Thin say: I'm fat. I say: Oh, stuff it.

I purposely bought it too small as an incentive to stick to my diet. I really want to wear that skirt on vacation this year.

I sigh and find my way back to my seat and take another sip of my now lukewarm coffee.

My friend makes her purchase and sets the muffin on a napkin in front of her seat. It is only inches from my coffee.

I watch her tear a small bite from the muffin and realize I'm worse than my puppy, who watches every single forkful of food and licks her lips in anticipation of a crumb that might fall her way.

If I keep lusting after my friend's muffin, I'm going to start whining and begging for scraps. In fact, I have to tell myself not to pick up the fairly large crumb that has fallen back onto the table.

We finish our coffee, and she finishes her muffin without my help.

Caleb Glafenhein, a right-handed pitcher from Corryton, Tenn., pitched a complete game for the Blythe Heat Tuesday afternoon at Desert Sun Stadium, beating the San Diego Surf Dawgs 5-3.
