Down a track in the village of Nethy Bridge, in the Cairngorm mountains, is the Lazy Duck hostel, a camping and self-catering site. From fire to flood, Myer store hit again
About 10.45pm on Wednesday a water main in the lane between the multi-level building at the corner of Murray and Liverpool streets partially burst. Ironically, it is believed a contractor had been relaying part of the fire service main to the Myer Murray St store. About 10cm of water covered the basement which houses the Miss Store and young men's clothing. Hobart Fire Brigade crews pumped water out of the basement and a floor covering company took about 10 hours to clean up before opening time. The store opened at the usual time yesterday with the only evidence a multitude of blower fans drying the area. It is understood some stock was damaged. Myer Hobart store manager Peter Monachetti had no comment. On September 22, the $50 million Liverpool St store fire destroyed the building. The connected Murray St store escaped major damage but required a refit.

Australian turtles smuggled into the US
AN American pet shop owner has pleaded guilty to smuggling endangered turtles from Australia and Asia to the US where they can fetch high prices. San Francisco man Coleman Lau, 29 had 14 baby Fly River turtles inside his clothes when he flew from Hong Kong to San Francisco in March 2004, the Associated Press reported. Fly River turtles are protected in their native countries and under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora. The amphibians, which cost up to $US500 ($566) at pet shops, are native to fresh water in Australia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. The smuggled turtles were handed over to the US Fish & Wildlife Service, which found homes for them at a research centre and in California zoos and aquariums, the AP said.
